In nothern Germany Leise was the same as Liese and Liese was a common name for streams or fields (lis meant "swamp, reed"). So perhaps the family came from the town Lieseberg or they lived near a swamp and a hill (Berg = hill).

First known ancestor is Heinrich Christopher Leisenberg, *15.01.1750 in Burgwedel near Hannover, Germany. He married Catharina Marlene Wöhler, also from Burgwedel.
